About the Event
Set in Havana during the late 1970s, FRESA Y CHOCOLATE tells the story of an unusual friendship between two very different men: David (Vladimir Cruz), a young student, and Diego (Jorge Perugorría), a middle-aged artist. David likes chocolate ice cream while Diego likes strawberry. David is homophobic while Diego is openly gay. David is a loyal Communist Party member while Diego left the party due to the revolution’s persecution of homosexuals. David reads what the Youth Communist League approves while Diego reads what he wants, especially banned books. David wants his ex-girlfriend back. Diego wants David. Ay ay ay! Will this friendship survive the political and social differences?
The only Cuban film ever nominated for an Oscar, FRESA Y CHOCOLATE seduced the world and changed the perception of the island’s gay community forever. Join us!
