What do POC Advocates do?
POC (People of Color) Advocates work within various sectors of PRISM to ensure that the services and community that we create are meant for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, or nationality. Whether that be within our SMDCT creating QPOC products to raise money for black-led initiatives or within our Research Team educating people about issues surrounding systemic racism and black history, POC Advocates work towards a more inclusive, accurate depiction of the LGBT community.
Who makes up the POC Advocates?
POC Advocate Liaisons
PRISM's mission for racial equality within the LGBT community spans across our entire organization. POC Advocate Liaisons connect with other task forces to develop and implement QPOC-centric initiatives on a wide variety of platforms.
POC Advocate Managers
In order to make sure everything is in order, POC Advocate Managers oversee all POC-related initiatives organized by PRISM. Comprised of people with lived experiences facing racial bias and discrimination, they also lead discussions based on race and the issues that come about from systemic oppression.
POC Counselors are trained and certified mental health professionals that are well-versed in struggles specific to QPOC. PRISM's POC Counselors provide free support for struggling people of color to take action against discrimination or simply lend an ear for those in need.
NOTE: PRISM's POC Counselors program is still under development. Check back soon for more information!
